Respiratory protection products are possibly the most important personal protective equipment that one can wear. All employers in Australia and New Zealand have a duty to clearly identify and eliminate hazards in the working environment. Where there are no other means of removing the contaminant from the workplace the wearing of AS/NZS 1716 complying respiratory protection is mandatory.     

AS/NZS 1715 also specifies the necessity of written and actioned training, together with procedures for the correct selection and monitoring of ongoing use of respiratory protection
